Compulsory insurance can be concluded for a period of 1 to 12 months.
If insurance is taken out for registration for a period of 12 months, for example, it is still used for registration after the vehicle is registered. Insurance for registration is issued by chassis number, so it is not canceled after the car is registered. After the car is already registered in Romania, the previously taken out insurance and the registration number are transferred. Transferring the registration number to the insurance is not mandatory, but it is a condition for being able to leave the country with the car.

YES, only under certain conditions. They must meet the technical conditions applicable to the individual approval of used road vehicles imported from third countries. It is mandatory that for these vehicles the driving position must be located on the left side in relation to the median longitudinal plane of the vehicle, and the minimum pollution standard must be Euro 3 or Euro III, as the case may be.

The simplest option to carry out the procedure is to deregister the car from Romania and obtain export numbers.
Another option, slightly more complicated, is for the car with Romanian license plates to arrive abroad, after which it will be deregistered from Romania.
In both situations, the name and original documents must be presented at the counter.

In the file submitted to DRPCIV, it is necessary to submit proof of registration in the records of the fiscal body of the local public authority in whose jurisdiction the owner has his domicile, headquarters or residence in the case of individuals domiciled abroad. This consists of entering the registration number in the Register of means of transport subject to registration/registration, on the alienation-acquisition act.
So, in the case of acquiring a vehicle, regardless of whether it is from England or another country, it is necessary to present a deed of acquisition, contract or invoice, as appropriate.

Currently, the DRPCIV website provides us with a link where we can see which numbers are available and which are not.

CAREFUL![]()
A number that is reserved by a person will appear in the DRPCIV system as a free number, because the number is only reserved by the person and is not placed on any vehicle.
So at the counter you may encounter a problem that the number is not valid even if you have checked it on the site, and on the site it appears as a free number.

For any car brought from outside the European Union, in addition to the purchase deed and the registration document/book from the respective country, a Customs Declaration must be obtained. This document is required, regardless of whether the person purchasing is a natural person or a legal entity.
What does the customs declaration entail?
The customs declaration involves the payment of customs duties on the product. These duties include value added tax (VAT) and customs duty. If the VAT is 19% of the value of the car, the customs duty will represent 10% of the real value of the car.
This document is paid when you enter the country by car, but… it can also be paid at the customs service in your city of residence. If it is paid in your city of residence, you must keep in mind that a fine will be charged for not paying the document when you enter the country by car.
